Taking A Brief Break

Hey Guys. A lot is going on this week. I haven't had time to visit or post.I started working nights in the kitchen at the caterer and the day job is getting tough. But most important and on my mind, is that Mama Roxy isn't doing well and it just a matter of time. For those of you who read this blog I wrote about her once. She is my work mother and the original Glamah, if there ever was one. I had planned this day on meeting Jen at A2Eatwrite who is visiting Chicago with her family. Earlier I was informed Mama Roxy was in the hospital, but hadn't realized she was declining so quickly. We were summoned to say our goodbyes. It was hard for me to digest and Jen was very understanding as we walked up Michigan Ave and talked. She came to the hospital with me, we had tea, and I braced myself to go up to ICU.All the memories of my mother and father dying in that's same hospital came flooding back to me. When I saw her I just broke down. But seeing all my old team and colleagues up in the room was comforting. Her daughter started a blog this morning to work through things. It will be a lovely tribute to her.
I will be back to my old self, but just need to withdraw a bit for few days. See you soon.

It's the first time I visit your blog although I have been seeing you commenting at mutual friends blog. I was touched by your comment at Nikki's blog, so I decided to come and say hi. I am sorry for what you are going through and sorry for your loss.

I don't know if my comment "stuck" Courtney. If it did, just erase this one.

Courtney thank you so much for your love and support! It took so much courage and strength for you to come see Mama when she was slipping away from us, and she knew you were there and she's so proud of you!

It's so hard for us right now, but remember that she's fine now, with no more pain, and can watch over us and take care of us from Heaven now.

Thank you for continuing to check on us, and just for being here for us Courtney. There are so many great things about my Mama, but one of the best ones is that her circle of friends has become a circle of friends for all of her family, and we're so grateful that her amazing spirit continues to shine and grow in that way.

We love you Courtney!

I read your "Apples and Thyme" post and am so very sorry you lost your parents so early and harshly, it is simply not right or fair. It is wonderful that you have come to love your work-mom-Roxy, it sounds like both your lives have been enriched for the relationship. Roxy certainly is a beautiful woman and I'm guessing the equally lovely younger woman in the photo is yourself :)

Take care...

I've just read both this and the older Apples & Thyme post - Mama R sounds like an amazing woman and you are so lucky to have had such a long and close relationship with her. Why are all the good people taken before we are ready to lose them?? And how sad that you lost both your parents, especially being the only child. I have only lost my mom and I know how much that hurt - and I still have a dad and a sibling. I will keep you and Mama R's family in my thoughts over the coming days and hope that you will be able to privide strength to help each other through this tough time. Hugs.

PS - also wanted to say what a great picture and what a fab necklace/neckpiece you are wearing :)
